The Azande King Atoroba Peni initiated the planting of 10 feddans of  rice at the kingdom palace over the weekend in Bazungua payam.

This event marks a pivotal moment for the Azande Kingdom as it seeks to bolster its agricultural output and enhance food security.

The Prime Minister of the Azande Kingdom, Tadeo Sasa, expressed his enthusiasm about the project, stating: “This is a great moment for our kingdom. We are advancing and making significant progress in encouraging agricultural activities.”

He added, “the kingdom is not only planting  rice but also beginning to harvest watermelons in large quantities, expecting over 2,000 pieces this season”.

The initiative comes as part of a broader strategy to diversify the kingdom’s agricultural production.

Earlier this year, the Azande Kingdom opened 300 hectares of farmland, aiming to produce a variety of crops including maize, rice, groundnuts, avocados, coffee, watermelons, and different types of beans.

King Atoroba emphasised the importance of agriculture in addressing the economic challenges facing South Sudan. “I urge the children of the kingdom and of South Sudan to engage in agricultural activities. It is the only answer to the current economic difficulties we face,” he declared. He also commended the dedication of the workers and local traditional leaders who have supported this initiative.

“Your hard work and commitment to progress on the farm are commendable and vital for our success,” King Atoroba added.
